It’s likely
that we’ve all, at some point in time, said that we wish we can move fat from
one region of the body and place it elsewhere. Fat transfer breast augmentation
works by harvesting body fat through liposuction and then using it to add
volume and fullness to the breasts. It can be done alone or in combination with
breast implants. However, it should be noted that when a fat transfer is done,
it will not mimic the plumpness, height and shape of breast implants and the
results of the procedure do not last as long since injected fat can be absorbed
by the body.
When
performed alone, the fat transfer process consists of two surgical procedures,
both of which can be performed the same day. First, the fat that will be
transferred is taken from an area of the body that normally has larger fat
content (waist, thighs, buttocks). During the liposuction procedure, the fat is
removed and collected into a canister that later allows the fat to be washed
and processed in order to remove the tissue from fluid waste and contaminants.
Once processed, the “washed” fat is transferred to a syringe and then injected
in the areas of the breast that need volume and fullness.
Overall, the
procedure can take up to six hours to perform, and most patients can return to
work and most activities following a week. For best results and to achieve your
desired goal, approximately three sessions are needed.
