A browlift, also commonly known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure that is designed to eliminate wrinkles around the forehead and brow. The development of frown lines and saggy skin around the forehead is common as patients get older, and a browlift can help restore a younger looking appearance.
In a browlift, the surgical technician begins by making one or more incisions along the top of the forehead, near the hairline. In some cases, the incisions may be made on the scalp and within the hair to help avoid scarring. Surgical instruments are then used to adjust the muscles and tissue beneath the surface of the skin, thereby tightening those tissues and eliminating surface wrinkles and sagging. Another common procedure for a browlift involves a single long incision that is made from ear to ear over the top of the head. This results in fewer visible scars, although the complications associated with this type of browlift may be more severe.
Browlifts are generally free of major risks, although patients may experience excessive bleeding, secondary infection and changes in sensation to the area. There is also a slight risk of permanent paralysis of the forehead muscles or total loss of feeling.
